The Ajumako Enyan Essiam District Assembly has honoured its best-performing teachers and rolled out a massive education support package, including the procurement of 5,000 sets of school tables and chairs, as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning across the district.
The awards ceremony, held during the government’s "Accounting to the People" town hall meeting, saw outstanding educators receive recognition for their dedication and hard work. The event underscored the Assembly's commitment to motivating the teaching workforce and improving educational outcomes.
In a significant boost to basic education infrastructure, the Assembly announced the procurement of 5,000 sets of school tables and chairs for both secondary and basic schools. The furniture is expected to be distributed to several schools, including Edwumaim D/A School, Obontser D/A Primary, Atwerboanda Primary School, Essiam RC Primary, Anomabokuma Primary School, Bosso Primary, Kokoado D/A Primary, and Owora Adwoa Primary.
The support package also included the procurement of 150 KG tables and chairs, alongside 30 pieces of metallic hexagonal KG tables with chairs specifically designed for kindergarten schools. These provisions aim to create a more conducive learning environment for the youngest pupils in the district.
The Assembly further highlighted the distribution of sanitary pads to female students in selected basic schools, an initiative aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene and ensuring that girls do not miss school during their periods.
According to the report presented at the town hall, the educational interventions form part of the government's broader strategy to invest in human capital and expand opportunities for the youth. The focus on both infrastructure—through the construction of classroom blocks and teachers' quarters—and teaching and learning materials reflects a comprehensive approach to improving education in the district.
The Assembly also noted that modern TVET equipment is needed to strengthen skills development, as part of the district's priority requests to the central government.
