Departments

Central Administration Department The coordinating hub of the Assembly. It provides leadership, policy direction, general administration, and management support to all other departments. It ensures government policies and Assembly decisions are implemented and often houses units such as Planning, Budget, Human Resource, Records, Procurement, and Internal Audit.

Finance Department Responsible for sound financial management. Key roles include mobilising Internally Generated Funds (rates, fees, licences, etc.), accounting, preparing financial reports, managing expenditure, and advising on financial policy.

Education, Youth and Sports Department Oversees basic education, special education, youth development programmes, sports, and related library services at the district level. It helps implement national education policies and supports school infrastructure and management.

Health Department (District Health Department) Coordinates public health services, primary healthcare, disease surveillance and control, environmental health and sanitation, and health education within the framework of national health policies.

Agriculture Department Promotes food security and agricultural modernisation. Functions include agricultural extension services, technical support to farmers, livestock keepers and fisherfolk, promotion of improved technologies and inputs, and facilitation of irrigation and mechanisation.

Physical Planning Department Manages spatial and land-use planning. It prepares land-use plans and layouts, processes building permits, advises on orderly physical development, enforces planning regulations, and handles parks and gardens activities.

Social Welfare and Community Development Department Handles social protection and community empowerment. Key activities include implementing programmes such as LEAP, supporting persons with disabilities, child protection, community mobilisation, and facilitating community-based rehabilitation and development initiatives.

Works Department Responsible for public infrastructure. It plans, constructs, repairs and maintains feeder roads, drains, public buildings, markets, and water/sanitation facilities. It also assists with project inspection and technical advice on works.

Trade and Industry Department Promotes local economic development. It supports small-scale enterprises, cooperatives, trade, industry, and business advisory services to create an enabling environment for private-sector growth.

Disaster Prevention Department Focuses on disaster risk reduction, preparedness, response and management (often working closely with NADMO). It handles public education on disasters, early warning, and emergency response coordination.

Natural Resources Conservation, Forestry, Game and Wildlife Department Responsible for environmental conservation, sustainable management of forests, wildlife, and natural resources within the district.
