The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly, established in 1988 by Legislative Instrument 1383, is one of the twenty-two (22) District/Metropolitan/Municipal Assemblies in the Central Region. It has Ajumako as its administrative capital.
The district has forty-seven (47) electoral areas which constitute the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam constituency. Consequently, the constituency has forty seven (47) unit committees. This thus legally translates into forty seven (47) Elected Honourable Assembly Membe9ors with twenty one Government appointees and the Honorable Member of Parliament of the constituency also as a member.

The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly exists to facilitate the improvement of quality of life of the people within its jurisdiction through equitable provision of services for the total development of the district, within the context of good governance.
Our Vision is to be a well-developed District with the basic socio-economic infrastructure and services provided for the people.

FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for the overall development of the district
- Submission of development plans of the district to the commission for approval
- Preparation of the budget of the district related to the approval plans and submission to the Minister of Finance.
- Formulate and execute plans, programmes and strategies for the effect mobilization of the resources necessary for the overall development of the district.
- In co-operation with the appropriate national and local security agencies to be responsible for the maintenance of security and public safety in the district.
- Be responsible for the development, improvement and management of human settlement and district environment.
- Initiate programmes for the development of basic infrastructure and provide district works and services in the district.
